Facebook Monetization

There are a few different ways to make money from the content you post on Facebook. To be eligible, however, your entire Page and its content must adhere to Facebook’s Rules for Monetization. How well you and your Page follow these rules will determine your monetization eligibility.

Rules for Monetization

You and your Page need to follow 3 main sets of rules to be eligible to monetize your content on Facebook:

1. Facebook Community Standards

  • These are Facebook’s foundational rules against unsafe content that depicts graphic violence, nudity and hate speech. In most cases, even non-monetized content must follow their Community Standards.

2. Partner Monetization Policies

  • Facebook’s Partner Monetization Standards are typically applied at the Page level, and address the behavior of your Page as a whole, including rules for the content your Page creates, how that content is shared and how your Page receives and makes online payments.

3. Content Monetization Policies

  • These rules typically apply at the content level. They address the content of each individual video or post that your Page publishes. Facebook’s Content Monetization Policies include rules against violent, sexual, criminal, graphic or profane content.

See if Your Page is Eligible

In addition to following Facebook’s Rules for Monetization, there are certain requirements your Page and your content must meet before being able to use any of Facebook’s monetization products.

Check Your Eligibility in Creator Studio

  • Go to the Facebook section in Creator Studio.
  • Click Monetization.
  • From the Overview section, use the Page picker at the top of your screen to choose the Pages you want to see monetization information about.

Check Your In-Stream Ads Eligibility

Only Facebook Pages are eligible to use in-stream ads. You’re eligible for in-stream ads if you are 18 years or older and meet the following criteria:

Publish videos from a Page

Meet Facebook’s Partner Monetization Policies

Have 30,000+ 1-minute views

  • This metric helps determine how successfully you’ll be able to monetize with in-stream ads. In the last 60 days, you need to have had at least 30,000 one-minute views on videos that are at least three minutes long.

Have 10,000 Page followers

  • Videos must be published from a Page that has at least 10,000 followers.

Be in an available country and language

Publish 3-minute videos

  • Videos themselves must be at least three minutes long to be eligible for in-stream ads. To check your Page’s eligibility, head to Creator Studio > Monetization Overview

Fan Subscription Eligibility

  • Currently, access to Fan Subscriptions is by invitation only.

Brand Content Access and Policies

  • Before you can tag a business partner in a branded content post, you need to request access.
  • To use Brand Collabs Manager, you need to apply.
  • Branded content in published posts on Pages or profiles must comply with Facebook’s Branded Content Policies, which don’t allow certain forms of branded content, such as roll ads or banner ads.

Violations and Appeals

If your content fails to meet Facebook’s standards or follow their policies, it may be flagged for an enforcement action. These include reducing or removing your ability to use their monetization tools.

Violations

  • Individual violations of Facebook’s standards may lead to the disabling of monetization tools for one specific piece of content. However, serious or repeated violations could cause your entire account to lose access to in-stream ads and other monetization tools. Check the monetization status for all your videos in your Creator Studio Content Library.

Appeals

  • If you believe one of your videos has been demonetized incorrectly, you can submit an appeal directly to Facebook’s reviews team. An appeal can only be submitted once for each demonetized video your Page has posted. Appeals are typically answered in 7 days or less.
